Bar Harbor Yacht Club - Season Rules 2024

The purpose of BHYC is to provide water access to our members at an affordable price. Without any employees, it is up to each of us to monitor ourselves. In short that means, leave the place cleaner than you found it, be considerate of others by sharing both dock space and clubhouse space, and safely enjoy your time at BHYC. Further details are below.

Use and Access to the Bar Harbor Yacht Club

1. The BHYC is a member-only yacht club. Access to the driveway, parking lot, buildings and docks is reserved to members in good standing and their guests. Guests need to be accompanied by a member. Access by friends and relatives when their member’s host is not present is not allowed. Please limit your guests to no more than six including those on your membership. Regular guests should be encouraged to become members.

2. To be in good standing, members need to have paid their annual membership fee by July 15.

Waterfront:

1. According to law, children 10 and under are required to wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket or life vest at all times while on a boat. At BHYC, they must also wear a lifejacket on our docks.

2. Docked boat time limits -15 minutes end, 1 hour sides

3. Club dinghies are for the use of members and are the only dinghies stored on the floats. Tie them securely and please don’t leave them on a mooring.

4. Personal dinghies must be maintained and stored so as not to damage other boats: soft sides, oarlocks down, a short painter, and motors down unless stored on the East side. Lastly, a USCG identification sticker is required on all dinghies.

5. The mooring field is a wake free zone.

6. Swimming from the docks is only allowed when boats are not in motion.

Clubhouse and Grounds:

1. When using the clubhouse, leave it cleaner than when you found it and lock it up.

2. Take all of your own trash with you.

3. Model responsible behavior when using alcohol. Do not leave alcohol unattended.

4. Maintain control of your pet and remove any pet waste.

5. There is a gas grill available to use. If a propane tank runs out, please refill it or notify a board member.

6. We supply wood for the fireplace and the firepit, but ask that you bring your own wood should you be there more than once during a week.

7. The clubhouse is available for private rentals by club members only for parties of up to 50 people. Rentals require inquiring about the availability for the day/time desired, and upon approval by the Board, filling in a rental agreement and paying the rental fee before the day of the rental. The head and the galley remain open to all members during a private party.
